Put the club calendar on your phone

Add the club feed once and every public event turns up on your own calendar. New events, time changes, and cancellations arrive on their own.

Subscribe to the club calendar

Add the feed once and club events show up on your own calendar. New events, time changes, and cancellations sync on their own, so there is nothing to re-add later.

Adding to Google Calendar only works on a computer, since Google's phone apps cannot add a calendar by link. On an iPhone, use the Apple button instead and it works right on your phone.

Your calendar app checks for updates on its own schedule, usually within a few hours.

First, know which one you want

Subscribe to the whole calendar

Uses the link above. Adds every public club event at once and keeps updating forever. This is what almost everyone wants.

Save one event

The Add to Calendar button on a single event. Copies that one event across and never updates it again. Good for a one off.

Find your calendar

Every method below starts with the link above. Find your calendar app in the list and follow the steps for it.

iPhone or iPad

Works on the phone
  1. Copy the link above.
  2. Open Settings and tap Apps, then Calendar. On older iPhones, tap Calendar straight from the Settings list.
  3. Tap Calendar Accounts, then Add Account, then Other.
  4. Tap Add Subscribed Calendar.
  5. Paste the link into the Server box and tap Next, then Save.

This is the quickest route on an iPhone and it needs no computer. Club events show up in the Calendar app within a minute or two.

Google Calendar

Needs a computer, once
  1. On a laptop or desktop, open calendar.google.com and sign in.
  2. In the left column, find Other calendars and click the + next to it.
  3. Choose From URL.
  4. Paste the link and click Add calendar.
  5. Close the settings screen. Adventure Unknown Events now sits under Other calendars in the left column.
  6. Tick the box next to it. Google can add a calendar without switching it on, and until it is ticked none of its events are drawn.
Open calendar.google.com

Google has never built this into its phone apps, so there is no way to do it from an iPhone or Android. Once it is added on a computer it syncs down to your phone by itself, and you never have to do it again.

Android

Add on a computer first
  1. Follow the Google Calendar steps above on a computer.
  2. On your phone, open the Google Calendar app.
  3. Tap the menu, then Settings.
  4. Find Adventure Unknown Events in the list and turn on Sync.

Step four catches most people out. Android hides newly subscribed calendars until you switch sync on for them, so if the calendar is on your laptop but missing from your phone, this is why.

Mac, using the Calendar app

On a Mac
  1. Open the Calendar app.
  2. In the menu bar choose File, then New Calendar Subscription.
  3. Paste the link and click Subscribe.
  4. Set Auto-refresh to every hour or every day, then click OK.

If you set Location to your iCloud account rather than On My Mac, the calendar follows you onto your iPhone automatically.

Outlook on Windows

On a computer
  1. Open Outlook and switch to the Calendar view.
  2. In new Outlook, click Add calendar, then Subscribe from web. In older Outlook, click Open Calendar, then From Internet.
  3. Paste the link.
  4. Give it a name, then click Import or OK.

Outlook.com or Microsoft 365

In a browser
  1. Open outlook.com/calendar and sign in.
  2. Click Add calendar in the left column.
  3. Choose Subscribe from web.
  4. Paste the link, name it, then click Import.
Open outlook.com/calendar

The Outlook phone app cannot add a calendar by link either. Add it here on a computer and it appears in the phone app afterwards.

Common snags

I tapped the Google Calendar button on my phone and got an error

Google does not allow calendars to be added by link from its phone apps, so the button cannot work there. Use the Copy button, then follow the Google Calendar steps on a laptop. You only ever have to do it once.

The calendar is in my list but no club events show up

Google adds a subscribed calendar without always switching it on. Find Adventure Unknown Events under Other calendars in the left column and tick the box beside it. The events appear straight away. An empty grid here means the calendar is hidden, not that the link failed.

I added it on my laptop but it is missing from my Android phone

Open the Google Calendar app, go to Settings, find Adventure Unknown Events and switch Sync on. Android keeps new subscribed calendars switched off until you do.

An event changed but my calendar still shows the old time

Your calendar app decides when to check for updates, and Google in particular can take several hours. Nothing is broken, the new time will arrive. Apple Calendar lets you set this to every hour if you would rather it was quicker.

I tapped Apple or Outlook and nothing happened

That button hands off to a calendar app installed on your device. If you do not have one, or you are in a browser that blocks the handoff, use the Copy button and follow the steps for your app instead.

I downloaded an event but it never updates

Downloading an event copies it across once. It is a snapshot, not a live link, so later changes do not reach it. Subscribe with the link at the top if you want a calendar that keeps itself current.

I cannot see the members only events

The feed carries the club's public events. Anything members only stays in the member portal, where it is behind your login. Check the calendar in the portal for those.

Short version to paste

For the group chat, when someone asks how to do it.

Want club events on your own calendar?

iPhone: Settings, Apps, Calendar, Calendar Accounts, Add Account, Other, Add Subscribed Calendar. Paste the link and Save.

Google Calendar: this one has to be done on a laptop, Google does not allow it on phones. Go to calendar.google.com, click the + beside Other calendars, choose From URL, paste the link. Then tick the box next to Adventure Unknown Events, or nothing shows up. It syncs to your phone after that.

Outlook: Calendar view, Add calendar, Subscribe from web, paste the link.

Everything updates on its own after that, so there is nothing to re-add when events change.

Questions about an event, or still stuck after trying the steps above, contact the club and we will get you sorted.
